BassPlayer - May - 2012 Alex Webster
Alex Webster may well be the face of extreme metal bass. In his bands Cannibal Corpse and Blotted Science, Alex has elevated the genre with some of its most advanced bass technique, and he recently authored a instructional book and video with Hal Leonard. In this issue, Bryan Beller (Dethklok, the Aristocrats), himself no stranger to crushingly brutal bass playing, picks Alex's brain, and also checks in with Webster's extreme metal brothers Steve DiGiorgio (Sadus, Death), Jeroen-Paul Thesseling (Obscura), and Derek Boyer (Suffocation). Bass lines on songs by the Doors are often attributed to the left hand of organist Ray Manzerak, but the band did indeed employ a bevy of bassists. In our transcription of "Strange Days," we get the story from Doors bass man Doug Lubahn.
