Chapter 5: Tapping the Line – Using tapping to extend sweep arpeggios

In this lesson, Michael shows you how to extend the range of sweep-picked arpeggios by adding a tapped note on the high E string, on top of a hammer-on and followed by a double pull-off before crossing back over to the lower strings and beginning an upstroke sweep. Our instructor also demonstrates a cool tap-and-slide move that he calls the “MI (Musicians Institute) sweep,” which is very useful for adding melodic “color tones” to a sweep-picked arpeggio, such as a ninth or major seventh.
