This month, MIX gets the story behind renovation of The Tracking Room, a legendary studio off Nashville’s famed Music Row.
We talk to David Haskell, president of the Morris family of entertainment enterprises, The Tracking Room’s parent organization; and engineers/producers Justin Cortelyou and Dan Rudin about the overhaul of various studio rooms as well as gear upgrades, including swapping out the very early SSL 9000J for an 80-channel SSL 9000J from Quad Studios in Nashville.
Producer Ethan Johns, engineer Dominic Monks and Tom Jones discuss recording Jones’ latest album, Long Lost Suitcase.
Sound designer Mick Potter talks about the live sound behind the Broadway smash School of Rock—The Musical. Sphere Studios owner/engineer/producer Francesco Cameli discusses relocating his studio from London to North Hollywood, the renovations needed to make the space his own, and the gear inside, including the unforgettable red SSL 4072G+ in Studio B, with its convenient Pro Tools configuration right in the middle of the console.
